- About Gold Filled - 

Gold-filled jewelry is an economical alternative to solid-gold jewelry. Gold-filled jewelry wears, looks, and lasts like solid-gold because the outer surface is solid-gold. It can be worn daily without fear of tarnishing or fading, and can stand the test of time with proper care. All the jewelry we carry is 14k yellow gold filled.

Gold-filled jewelry consists of a base metal (brass) pressure bonded (like a laminate) with a layer of gold over top. Gold-filled jewelry has almost 100% more gold than gold-plated jewelry. It is much more valuable and durable, and will not tarnish or chip away over time like gold-plated jewelry. Gold-filled jewelry is legally required to contain 5% or 1/20 gold by weight.  Imperfections can occur at solder joints (where the gold has been melted together).

Gold-filled jewelry is hypoallergenic and can be worn without fear of allergic reaction (unless you are part of the small percent of people who are allergic to gold). It is lead and nickel free, so wear without fear of rashes, itching, or skin discoloration.
